IKF Europa Shield 2017 Champion: Bec Korfball Club from England!

The IKF Europa Shield 2017 has its champion: Bec Korfball Club from England!! A golden goal scored by Benjamin King decided today’s final in favour of the English team, beating the German squad of Schweriner KC by 9-10. Congratulations to both teams for this intense and beautiful EShield final.

The Bronze medal game was also decided in the last minutes of an exciting and close game between CRC Quinta dos Lombos and the Catalan CK Montcada. There wasn’t a clear leader during the game, and only in the last part of the match the Portuguese team was able to open a small gap in the scoreboard that allowed them to win the bronze medal.

This intense and exciting last day in Odivelas decided the final ranking of this great IKF EUROPA SHIELD 2017.

Gold medal: Bec Korfball Club (ENG)
Silver medal: Schweriner Korfball Club e.V. ’67 (GER)
Bronze medal: CRC Quinta dos Lombos (POR)
4th place: Club Korfbal Montcada (CAT)
5th place: SG Pegasus Rommerscheid 1991 e.V. (GER)
6th place: Korfbal Club Barcelona (CAT)
7th place: KCC Sokol České Budějovice (CZE)
8th place: Clube Carnaxide Cultura e Desporto (POR)

These fantastic days in Portugal were possible thanks to the hard and good work done by the Local Organizer Committee and all volunteers from NC Benfica, IKF officials, referees, jurys and people from Portuguese Korfball Federation and other local korfball clubs. Thank you all for this huge and fantastic tournament!

Miguel Torga, 2675 Odivelas), from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 January 2017. In 2016, Korfbal Club Barcelona (Catalonia) became the champion, after beating in the final the previous 2015 IKF EShield winner: Bec Korfball Club from England.

The IKF Europa Shield is well known because of its close games and surprises, and today’s games were the perfect demonstration of all this. Looking at the results, everybody can see why players and spectators love so much this tournament. Everybody can beat its rival!

IKF Europa Shield 2017: Day 1 Report

The 2017 Europa Shield edition in on! Four games where played today in Multiusos de Odivelas (POR). As expected, the first close games took place, leaded by a golden goal in favour of the English Bec KC against the German Schweriner KC. This game was followed by the SG Pegasus (GER) – KCC SOKOL (CZE), that also ended with a really close 23-21.

The other two games were clearly leaded by KC Barcelona and CRC Quinta dos Lombos. A great first day of tournament before tomorrow’s big day with 8 games. Here you can see all Day 1 results (Friday, 27 January 2017):
