The Netherlands: European Korfball Champion 2016 (EKC Day 8 – Sun, Oct 30)

One more time, The Netherlands beat Belgium in the IKF EKC final played in Dordrecht’s Sportboulevard Sunday, October 30,2016. The power of the Dutch team was overwhelming in the first minutes, creating a huge gap in the scoreboard with 10-2 at the end of the first quarter, making it almost impossible to go back for the Belgians.. Belgium tried to recover, but it was an impossible mission given the excellent performance of the Dutch who were supported by a home crowd of 4,000 in a sold-out venue. The final result: 27-14.

The bronze medal game was a terrific and exciting game between two similar and experienced teams. Catalonia lead in the beginning, but Portugal came back and turned the game around. Only in the last minutes the Catalan team was able to open a little breach, which became decisive in the final result (12-16). This bronze medal is the first ever achieved by the Catalan national korfball team in an IKF senior tournament.
