The Koninklijke Belgische Korfbalbond (KBKB – Royal Belgian Korfball Federation) and students of the Karel de Grote-Highschool (KdG) launched recently www.ikf-wkc-2015.be as result of a unique collaboration project that started end of January 2015.
About 40 KdG-students presented on June 11 their project results to a jury that consisted of mentors of the KdG and a representation of the KBKB. Sam Schuddinck, Félix Rijkers, Mike Van den Heuvel and Yannis Tack, forming the BePro team, made most impression with their interactive website and integrated computer game.
“We closely followed the different teams during their preparations”, tells Eric Duchesne, IKF WKC project manager at the KBKB. “We were really impressed by the results and the level of expertise these students have shown after a relative short period of time. The BePro-team (see picture) could convince us with their proposal and together we started working to finalize everything in time. We are very pleased to be able to launch the website and korfball game 50 days before the actual start of the World Korfball Championship.”
“The web application contains all required functionalities”, continues Eric Duchesne, “it offers a public part where the visitor can find all information about the tournament and it also gives the opportunity to pick your favorite team and to leave reactions or to cheer via the integrated social media functions. In the private part, athletes and officials will find all the information they need about the practicalities before and during the tournament and they can communicate with the organisation in a direct and uniform way.”
“The icing on the cake is the korfball game that has been developed”, concludes Eric Duchesne. ”The game is in the High5 korfball theme, a low profile korfball product that aims at korfball initiation for all ages. The combination of the web application and the computer game is really unique in history of korfball and we are glad that we launch this as a leading korfball nation together with the students of KdG. “

The 3rd place and bronze medal was achieved by the Portuguese NC Benfica, who defeated the Czech Brno KK 21-17.

It must be said. It is a point of attention for a new European working group to create schedules where teams of equal strength can play for results with small margins. As this was the case in this match, both players and officials enjoyed the performance of the teams. The French finally got away with the victory although there is still a chance for the champion of Scotland to reverese the situation in the best of two.
Brno – Trojans KC 19 – 18
A good start from Brno, a team that came in as a substitute for the champion of Czech Republic, resulted in an early lead. 10 minutes before half time Trojans closed the gap and took over.
A more stylish way of playing of Trojans against the power play of Brno, at half time it was difficult to predict the outcome (10-8)
The Czechs had their best period after tea. The Brooks brothers worked hard but forgot the most important issue of an attack. No wonder Brno felt safe with 15-8 and 10 minutes to go
Trojans never underestimated the danger and did their utmost to secure a good position for the final ranking.
The Czechs now played the 25 shot clock seconds till the signal of the buzzer reducing the scoring opportunities of Trojans (18-16 with 3 minutes to go)
A thrilling game, good refereeing, dedicated players.
Benfica – Vallparadis 22 – 18
The battle of the Iberian peninsula was closely watched by many spectators and more specific by the Belgian team from Scaldis.
Vallparadis, after a succesful start, could not keep up with the rythm imposed by the opponent and called for an early time out to reset tactics (8-5)
More Catalan ball recuperation disturbed Portugese attacks even to end with the sound of the shot clock buzzer.
Difficult to say which was the better team at half time (11-10)
The teams performed so well and were so eager to win that both were unable to create a big margin. Some mistakes in defense were penalised by good reffing. At the end Benfica was the winner after a game that had all to offer to an exciting crowd of spectators.
Top/Quoratio – Kocaeli 39 – 9
Not much excitement here. The Turkish team has confirmed that they are in progress and Top seems ready to deal with any obstacle on the way to glory.
Scaldis – Schweriner 25 – 15
A bad injury from “Diamond” Patty Peeters and a serious effort from the German B-team were the main facts of the first half.
In the second half Scaldis slowly but surely strolled towards an easy victory.
