Changes in the IKF Beach Korfball Rules as from 1 July 2018

With the experiences of the IKF Open European Beach Korfball Championship 2017 in The Netherlands as a reference, including the feedback of the IKF Beach Korfball Committee, the IKF Playing Rules Committee has come up with a number of changes in the IKF Beach Korfball Rules.

Probably the most prominent change in the rules is the installation of a two-point zone. However, it is highly recommendable to closely review the whole document and check all changes. In a later stadium the IKF will present a document with the most important difference between ‘Beach korfball’ and regular ‘Korfball 8’.

IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe)

The IKF is proud there will be an official second beach korfball tournament in Europe in 2018:  ‘IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe)‘! The event will take place in the weekend of 11 and 12 August 2018 and will be held in Blankenberge, Belgium. The organiser is the Royal Belgian Korfball Association (KBKB).

Beach korfball is fast growing. It is played in multiple countries in all continents around the world. It is sport, fun and excitement. It is very popular with the younger age groups. Therefore the IKF is more than convinced that beach korfball helps to invest in the future of korfball and korfball4. Beach korfball has an important role in development and achieverment of longer term goals of the IKF. Again the 2018 event in Blankenberge will consist both of a Senior and an Under 19 category.

With only four (4) players needed to form a team, instead of eight in regular korfball, IKF is aiming to make it easier for national associations to initiate new korfball activities and reach new players. On the competition level IKF believes to create more equality between the teams and lower costs for national associations by having less athletes involved and using a short tournament format.

The venue of the 2018 tournament will be ‘O Neill Beach Club Blankenberge’. Again this unique accommodation is located sea side: Click here for the Beachcam

Today we disclose the Beach Korfball event logo 2018 as well.

The Belgian Beach Korfball Committee and the IKF are underway to organise a succesful event for teams, players, korfball fans and visitors.

Registration for IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018 now open!

All 69 IKF recognised National Korfball Federations are invited to participate in the next IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018 that will take place in Blankenberge (Belgium) from 11 to 12 August 2018.

This event will contain both a Senior and Under 19 category. IKF A & B countries are entitled to subscribe two teams per category, and C-D-E countries only one. Remember that beach korfball is played in a 4 against 4 format, and the maximum number of players per team is 6. So be aware! Because during the tournament it will not be allowed for a player to play in more than one team.

It is up to each National Federation to decide how to select the National Team. This can be done by a standard selection process, but for example also by picking the best (club) team of a National Beach Korfball Championship.

To be able to participate countries must send a complete filled entry form to the IKF no later than 12 March 2018 to officially subscribe for this tournament.

More detailed info and documents has been sent via e-mail to all National Federations.

THE BEST RANKED EUROPEAN TEAM WILL BECOME EUROPEAN BEACH KORFBALL CHAMPION 2018

With the introduction of World Cups, the IKF invests in the global development of beach korfball. Every continental organisation has the opportunity to organise a World Cup in 2018 and every country from all over the world is able to participate in each of the events. This can lead to at most 5 World Cups:

IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe)
IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia)
IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Oceania)
IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Africa)
IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Americas)

Belgium (Blankenberge) host of the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018

The IKF is happy to announce that the Royal Belgian Korfball Federation (KBKB) will host the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018. The event will take place on the weekend of the 11th and 12th August 2018 and will be held in Blankenberge, Belgium. The best ranked European team will become European Beach Korfball Champion 2018.

With the introduction of World Cups, the IKF invests in the global development of beach korfball. Every continental organisation has the opportunity to organise a World Cup in 2018 and every country from all over the world is able to participate in each of the events. This can lead to at most 5 World Cups:

  • IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Americas)

The bid of Belgium to organise the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018 surpassed the competitive bid of the Turkish Korfball Federation (TDSF). Decisive in this process was the overall picture by the KBKB, presenting the event in a wider “Korfball Experience” approach to promote (beach) korfball in Flanders. This includes a side event for youth teams and recreational teams during the Championship weekend and a tournament for schools at the end of June. In Blankenberge, there is two kilometres of beach available, so having enough playing space for all beach korfball activities is not an issue!

Next summer it will be 15 years since two small clubs outside Antwerp started playing beach korfball. Since then beach korfball has grown significantly. In 2010, the Belgian Federation started a taskforce to organise a beach korfball tour across Flanders, which has been converted into an official committee within the Federation. To date, the highlight is the year of 2015 with more than 1200 participants in the korfball tour. This has left no doubt that the 2018 event will create a special 15th anniversary!

The Netherlands are the 1st IKF European Beach Korfball champions!

The Hague Beach Korfball Stadium (NED) hosted the 1st IKF Open European Beach Korfball Championship 2017. A great weekend with international senior and U19 teams playing this new spectacular and different korfball discipline. After an intense weekend with two closely contested finals, The Netherlands won both gold medals in the senior and U19 categories.

In the senior category, Portugal won silver while Belgium won the bronze medal game against Czech Republic. The U19 silver medal went to Hungary, and Belgium U19 won bronze.

The event took place under sunny though windy circumstances, in the great Beach Stadium in The Hague (NED). About 1000 spectators attended the final match between the Netherlands and Portugal. During the weekend, also a grass-roots tournament took place on the beach next to the stadium.
