Late withdrawal of Turkey from the IKF EKC

The International Korfball Federation (IKF) has been informed today by the Turkish Developing Sports Branches Federation (TDSBF) that the Turkish national korfball team will not participate in the upcoming IKF European Korfball Championship (IKF EKC) from 13-21 October in Friesland, The Netherlands. This withdrawal is due to internal ambiguity regarding available budgets.

Turkish korfball is affiliated to the TDSBF that represents multiple sports in Turkey.

The IKF will approach the involved partners to discuss the best organisational structure for further development of Turkish korfball in the near future. For the settlement of this late withdrawal the IKF Disciplinary Procedures will be followed.

Turkey was positioned in group C, together with group D the lower part of the match schedule. The updated IKF EKC match schedule can be found on the IKF website Click here for updated match schedule .

IKF World Ranking 2018 (from 1 July)

The IKF World Ranking 2018 (from 1 July) is based on the revised world ranking criteria 2018, approved by the IKF EXCO in June. Due to the continuously development of  korfball around the globe and the establishment of  the IKF Competition Calendar 2018-2021, an update of the world ranking criteria was required.

Link to ranking (.pdf): https://korfball.sport/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IKF-World-Ranking-2018_07_01.pdf

Points for the ranking are mainly earned through participation in official IKF events, with a weighting for each event given according the importance of the event. Ranking points earned are weighted less each year, until the next edition of this event is held and the previous edition of the event drops out of the calculations.

Countries who take part in qualifications for a Final Round of an event, for example the IKF European Korfball Championship (EKC) Round 1, are also awarded points like they participated in the main event. Only after finalising all continental events in a certain year a Continental Championship will be taken into account in the World Ranking.

As Day 4 action of the 1-Korf progresses we are getting close to having a clear picture of ranking spots. Only six more matches to go in order to know the finalists. Mainly there were no surprises on Day 4 of the U19 & U16 championships, except Hong Kong defeated China in U16 (11:6). Malaysia took the revenge of their yesterday’s loss in 2-Korf format from Thailand. This may be attributed to obviously different game tactics used in both the formats. Taipei remains undefeated on Day 4 and close to reserve their spot in the finals. Tomorrow in the second half we will have finals and other ranking matches for the 2-Korf format.

Games can be followed live on Facebook page on 14 and 15 April 2018 https://www.facebook.com/OurSport.tv. Live results, matches schedule, game statistics, play-by-play, scorers and ranking pools will be available live from GYMNASIUM, THE AFFLILIATED JHONGLI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (JLSHS) OF NATIONAL CENTRAL UNIVERSITY.
